This year’s Journey2Jobs Career Expo (J2J) will be hosted by Shelton State Community College on Friday, October 17, 2014, between the hours of 8:00 AM and 2:30 PM for all TCSS eighth graders.  On behalf of the Tuscaloosa County School System, I invite Companies to partner with us in this Second Annual J2J. Your participation will be invaluable to these students as we partner to develop our future regional workforce.

Today’s youth people need to be engaged.  Seeing a poster and reading a brochure about a career does not capture their interests—they want to use as many of their senses as possible to experience the career. For this reason, we are encouraging our partners to be creative in demonstrating what their particular career field is all about. In other words, help the students experience potential careers that are within their reach with education and training.

Both indoor and outdoor spaces are available for J2J exhibits. Exhibitors will be grouped by Career Cluster as much as possible, but we are willing to put our partners where they need to be in order to best reach students with their exhibits. Since no classes are held at Shelton State on Fridays, you will have plenty of space to showcase your organization and the careers it offers.  We appreciate Shelton State’s gracious hospitality in making this opportunity available to you and our students.

Each student will have the opportunity to visit all exhibits so you can count on seeing every one of those 1,400 eager students at some point during the day. Teachers will spend the weeks leading up to the J2J preparing their students by using Career Cluster Guides, videos, and other related materials in their classrooms. When the students get to you, we expect them to be primed and ready!
Are you ready to commit?  Click on the Journey2Jobs link below that will take you to the Exhibitor Registration Form.

Thank you in advance for your consideration of partnering with us in this worthwhile event!  Once you have registered as a J2J exhibitor, you will receive detailed information such as exhibit placement and setup as the event date draws near.   We’ll also order your lunch for the day, compliments of TCSS and other generous sponsors.

    Sincerely,

    Dennis D. Duncan
Director of Career and Technical Education

    New Construction
As a result of the action of the Tuscaloosa County Commission this morning and the tireless efforts of Dr. Liz Swinford, the TCBOE can move forward with their plans to renovate Lloyd Wood Middle School to relocate the students of Sprayberry Education Center and GRAD Academy, to advertise for land to locate the New Holt High School, and start the design of the New Holt High School.
TCSS would like to thank the Tuscaloosa County Commission for their continued support.
